MTP Recommendation: Great coyote and fox trap and for your multi specie line.

The 550-RC has an outside jaw spread of 5 1/2” and an inside jaw spread of 4 3/4”. The cast jaw face is 3/8” thick and the offset is 3/16”. We’ve installed a Paws-I-Trip pan system and stainless steel night latch dog. Pan tension out of the box on the two coiled version runs an average of 2.5 pounds which we have found to be a very good number for a multi species trap. Pan tension on the four coiled model runs an average of 4.1 pounds. Waxing will decrease pan tension by about .3 pounds. This trap is fast and excellent results are obtained using it two coiled. We do not recommend using the 4-coiled version if grey fox is your target animal.  #3 chain, crunch proof swivels, and a 2-piece gusseted frame for strength and reliability.  The 550 is an excellent live market trap, as well as the trap to use on a mixed specie line. Small enough for fox and tough enough for the nastiest coyote.

**Disclaimer: We try our very best to source all Minnesota Brand trap parts within the USA. At times in the past we have had issues sourcing sufficient quantities of particular parts from our USA suppliers. It is very important to us to provide a USA made product but also be able to provide trappers with traps. Therefore, our Minnesota Brand Traps are fully assembled by our American crew in Pennock, Minnesota with either all USA made parts or a combination of USA and minimal foreign parts when necessary to provide product to the marketplace. The vast majority of our MB trap parts are punched just 8 miles from our shop by LFS Tool & Die Company and sufficient quantities of those parts are never an issue**

What is the difference between a regular and offset jaw?
When the trap is in the fired position and you are looking straight down on the trap if the jaws touch together it is a regular or closed jaw trap. If there is a gap where the jaws meet that is called an offset jaw trap.

What is the difference between a 2-coil or 4-coil trap?
A 2-coil trap has a pair of main springs on the same side as the dog. A 4-coil trap has a second pair of springs on the opposite side as the dog. Typically, most 4-coil springs are smaller in size than the main springs.
